First, please do not confuse the firmware version with the app version. The firmware is the internal software inside the Zhiyun Smooth 4 electronics. The ZY Play app runs on your phone and has its own version update.How to check Zhiyun Smooth 4 firmware version?
*Connect the ZY Play app to Zhiyun Smooth 4 via Bluetooth.
*Press the Menu button on the Zhiyun Smooth 4.
*Goto Settings > General > OTA version.
The OTA version is your latest firmware.What is the latest firmware?
According to the official Zhiyun website, the latest version of the firmware is 1.77 as of January 2020.What’s new in Firmware version 1.77?
According to various sources, here is what’s new… and other version upgrades.
v1.77– Fixed the zoom & focus failure.
v1.76– Optimize pan axis drift.
v1.75– Optimize motor protection to avoid motor overheat.– Optimize Bluetooth communicating.
v1.74– Fixed Bluetooth malfunction prompt under certain circumstances.– Added indicator for wheel status recognition.– Improved motor current sampling.– Repaired the power failure during APP connection.
v1.72– Standby mode is inaccessible via the power button in case of unintended operation.– Fixed some bugs.
v1.71– Alpha-version firmware.

It seems version 1.77 only fixes the pan and focus failure. I didn’t notice any failure in version 1.76. Pan and Focus are fine on my Smooth 4.Should I update the firmware?
If you use an Android phone, I strongly suggest NOT to update. You might face more problems, as I have read.
If you like adventure… then do it at your own risk.

SOLVED… Update – January 4, 2020: ZY Play app on my Android phone cannot connect to the Smooth 4 SOLVED! Here’s how… (1) I turned off my iPhone Bluetooth, (2) Then I powered off and on my Samsung Galaxy S10, (3) Connect with ZY Play app again and it works!!!
So, Android users, it is safe to upgrade to firmware version 1.77… at least for my Samsung Galaxy S10. How do I Upgrade / Update the Zhiyun Smooth 4 Firmware?
Things you need: USB to USB-C cable, a Mac or PC, the Zhiyun Smooth 4.
